"A year-long calendar of events for Skipton’s 175th anniversary in 2014 enabled the local community to celebrate its heritage.  Starting with the Australia Day celebrations in January and culminating with a huge Melbourne Cup weekend, events included a Family Sheep and Wool Day, photographic show, garden conference, teddy bears picnic, evening ball, vintage car show and a family bush concert.

Cr O’Connor said the organising committee put together a program to cover every club and age group in the community.

“As a result, there was something for everyone and it was a year where residents were able to reconnect and get involved in some sort of project.

“In particular, Pat Gabb, Lisa Wills and their team went to a huge effort to plan the event schedule.  A whole year of celebrations is no mean feat,” Cr O’Connor added."
